Religious Life

Sakya Academy was founded in 2016 as a monastic school. Its purpose at the time was to create an institution that would allow young Sakyapa monks to complement their religious vocation with a secular academic formation. This unique opportunity was to give them the necessary tools to become active and useful members of society.

In 2020, however, it was decided that the school would change its status to that of a lay institution. This decision was based in no small part on the realization that young boys and men are nowadays less likely to choose monasticism as a way of life.

With these changes in place, it is up to each student to decide on his path in life. We are very happy that 4 of our senior students have made the decision to become monks.

As for the rest of the students, they continue with their scriptures studies and participate in the rituals that are held regularly in the school temple.
